SEO – Search Engine Optimization

You have done all the right things to create your website, it is on the internet, but now you need people to find your site and start looking at what you have to show the world.  It’s all about SEO!

How do people find my website?

The obvious answer is that they enter a search term in a major search engine, such as Google, Bing or Yahoo; however the hard part, or the big question, is:

“how do I get my site to rank on the 1st page of their search results?”

There are so many aspects and details we need to talk about to answer that question.  All that I can say right now is there is no easy, one step, thing you can and need to do.

SEO requires work in many different areas.  The good news is that there are tools that you can use, some for free, that takes the word “Work” out of the picture.

If you have a WordPress site, then there is a great tool that you should start with by adding it to your WordPress Plugins.  It is the SEO WordPress Plugin – by Yoast.  Even if you add this plugin to your WordPress site, there is still some work to do.

Things you need to take care of so that your site ranks highly on the search engines include:

  • Incoming or Back Links
  • Social Media
  • Webmaster Tools
  • Keyword Research
  • Article Marketing

… just to name a few

In this series we will go over all of these SEO aspects, and more…

One final bit of housekeeping before we begin with the series.  Each article in the series will be on its own page located in this site’s menu under this page.   There is a top navigation bar as well as one on the right side of every page so you can easily move from article to article.

Adding Essential WordPress Plugins - Top Navigation Bar - SEO

Adding Essential WordPress Plugins - Right Side Navigation

So, let’s get started and have some fun with some SEO!  (Yes I have been called a funny guy by many people.  Having fun is all about your perspective!)
